Overview

An American scientist tells two colleagues about the finding of an abominable snowman living in the Japanese alps, where it is worshipped by a remote tribe as a god, and how it was discovered by modern man after it raided a skiers shelter following an avalanche, killing all inside. This is an adaptation of the Japanese film “Jūjin Yuki Otoko” (1955) with added American-made footage, narration, and music.

Viewing Notes

via Internet Archive. Like a needed yet another John Carradine flick but it was an easy payday for probably was one day of shooting on a soundstage in Hollywood. Unfortunately unlike Godzilla King of the Monsters this one really removes most of what made the original film interesting. Carradine narrates most of what is happening but a majority of the film is like a silent film as none of the original Japanese dialogue is used. Therefore the story is changed to fit a Western retelling of the discovery of the yeti. And it’s not very good. Given that they also sliced 30 minutes from the original plus added the extra scenes of Carradine explaining what happened, this is a real cheap version and not worth the time. I wanted to see it because it does give credit to Ishiro Honda for the Japanese sequences and to note the differences. While the original film isn’t great by any stretch, this one is awful in comparison. Only give it marginal stars for those original scenes, cast and FX.
