Shipping magnate Cyrus Wentworth, downcast over a disaster to his ocean liner ‘Wentworth Castle’ (carrying, oddly enough, an illicit shipment of Chinese bonds) is shot in his office at the very moment of kicking out his daughter’s fiance Dick Fleming. Of course, Captain Street arrests Dick, but reporter Bobbie Logan, the attractive thorn in Street’s side, is so convinced he’s wrong that she enlists the help of detective James Lee Wong to find the real killer.

Even more proof that I’m getting old and losing my memory: watched this one and during this rewatch none of it looked familiar so that’s why I watched it. Damn.
Having seen a lot of mystery serials lately it’s interesting that in the Mr Wong films, he isn’t the lead character compared to Bulldog Drummond and Charlie Chan. In this one Wong doesn’t appeared until after the 15 minute mark. Then he’s merely a supporting character yet ultimately solves the crime.
