This is Japanese?! P cool that Marvel went to Madhouse (anime studio) to create this film. They wanted to go more R-rated action & violence and it works. I like the teamup with Punisher and Widow. This film also reminds me that for the live action films I wanted an actor that more resembled the comic book Widow bc she’s nearly perfect in that look (here she’s a little too overstylized but closer to the comic look/feel). Of course I like ScarJo but still think about what could’ve been.
The featurettes are good w/the Japanese crew discussing the characters and story along w/the Marvel heads. Would love to see more Marvel films done in this style by Madhouse or other anime studios. I listened to the Japanese dub which was interesting bc they don’t align w/the English subs, which are verbatim what the English dialogue is. They added more in the English version; for example when Frank Castle is brought to SHIELD and ppl are whispering things. Those aren’t on the Japanese track. Lots of stuff like that.
Since I don’t read the comics I don’t know where this falls in the timeline but it was weird seeing Captain Marvel show up with the Avengers. I love seeing glimpses of that Rogue’s Gallery and wish they had a bigger role in the film.
