Viewing Notes

Was so fascinated by this film that I decided to keep it longer so I could listen to the commentary. Actually I wanted to buy the 2-DVD set (Chinese Box plus this film) but really don’t want to spend the $$ at this time.

Anyways, this is a pretty good commentary by Wang bc the film is a time capsule for Hong Kong at that time and he discusses what it was like and how his character and plot points come from real stories in the news. Oddly he doesn’t address the X-rated (changed to Unrated) but does talk about the things in the film that likely caused it (i.e. graphic animal violence).

I really like hearing about Hong Kong before its separation and what it was like for Wang growing up there. I may end up buying this set if I can still get it bc I’d like to hear what he has to say about Chinese Box. And I would watch this film again.
