A fortune teller has told her this is the year she’ll die, and a daughter, Geraldine, remains unmarried. Another Wayne Wang Asian American flick (trying to get thru all his AA films before tackling any of his non-Asian flicks). Seems like a good rainy day flick (it’s raining). Plus more Victor Wong!
Kinda happy that I guessed San Francisco from one neighborhood street shot in the opening clips.
Bittersweet story of the Chinese American dynamic where a daughter is resigned to caring for her mother rather than fulfilling her own dreams. Some nice touches in here tho a few scenes are a tad awkward by the stilted acting. Wong is great but stands out so much among the non-actors. Cora is also really good.
