Overview
Dr. Louis Creed and his wife, Rachel, move from Boston to Ludlow, in rural Maine, with their two young children. Hidden in the woods near the new family home, Ellie, their eldest daughter, discovers a mysterious cemetery where the pets of community members are buried.

I’m just happy to see this so I can stop avoiding the spoilery trailers.
So I didn’t hate it but I didn’t like it too much. I thought some of the scares were pretty effective and the mood/tone was good. Like the look of the film. But it’s a weird one in that it feels like separate pieces connected but they don’t all fit together. Like things happen and there’s no reasonable explanation as to why. For example, the wife/mother’s flashbacks to her sister… the husband/father’s vision of the dead patient… why the neighbor so suddenly wants to bury the cat in the evil place (WHEN HE KNOWS ITS EVIL) and why the father is okay with this and not just fine telling daughter the cat ran away or died. Seriously, this is a headscratcher of a movie that seems more like “hey let’s do some scary bits and give it atmosphere but not bother with character building or motivation” Like there’s no reason to buy that Jason Clarke’s character after immediately seeing how Church came back evil SO EVIL HE HAD TO TAKE HIM FAR AWAY FROM THEIR HOUSE that now let’s dig up his daughter and do that to her. So fucking weird.
I do like the batshit ending which is why I give it a 5/10
