Been while since I’ve visited this cinema. Came to Evanston for a double feature starting with this one (the second film was only screening at this theater in all of Chicago this week).
Anyways, this is a fun movie and oddly a bit dark/violent for a family flick. Nothing wrong w/that. Doesn’t have the heart or emotional impact of KUBO but it is a warm film with nice characters and some decent humor. There are a couple of dialogue lines that made me LOL. The stop motion animation is really the best thing here. It’s fucking amazing what LAIKA can do.
Hugh Jackman was perfectly cast for his role.
