Viewing Notes

Meiko Kaji is in this! Wow, this might be my favorite installment of all the “Battle Without Honor” films. It’s so frenetic and fun. Kuroda (Bunta Sugawara) is such a blast as he portrays the “stray dog” ostracized from his yakuza family then enacts revenge on them. There is a car chase shootout that is just bananas.

Yuriko Hishimi (of ULTRA SEVEN fame) plays the “bad luck maid” girlfriend and good lord is she fine. Interesting career pivot in the 70s for her after doing the entire Ultra run.

I held off on buying this set via Arrow bc I hadn’t finished the first set but now I’m considering it bc it’s so good. Also I think this is story is easier to follow with less yakuza gangs involved (less sprawling compared the first series of films). Would definitely revisit these.
