Viewing Notes

Really bad at picking movies during Cubs games :( At least I could catch the ninth inning when Boti hit that walk-off to end the game!

Anyways, this is a very good movie where Elle Fanning absolutely rocks it as a social inept teen with some great vocal abilities. Her socially awkwardness and singing prowess make this “a star is born” story worth viewing. Also she has a pretty damn good backup band that deserves more credit.

Haven’t read the criticism but I’m guessing one of the ticks is that this is formulaic. Well, yeah. Brooding teen? Check. Unlikely mentor? check. Derided by her peers and family? check. check. check. check. Yes, it has it all. What it really boils down to is how are the performances. Elle is convincing in this role. I also loved the quick scenes of her and her band just being kids and having fun.
