Viewing Notes

This is 2.5+ hours?! O.o

So initially I thought this was the Stand Alone Complex tv series condensed into a movie (because it’s 160minutes long!). I was sorta right. The director Kenji Kamiyama took the elements of The Laughing Man plot (I haven’t seen the series so I’m guessing there was a lot more other plots happening) then re-edited that and added more ADR to smooth out the story for this feature film.

That said, this is very complex to the point I was lost trying to follow what exactly was happening. I get the cyber-terrorism and mind control stuff but to what end was where it lost me. Wondering if viewing the series (season 1) would help. Other than that, I did really enjoy how all these characters in Section 9 are against each and the Major has to solve the mystery.

I watched the 30 minute interview w/Kenji Kamiyama by lead voice actress Atsuko Tanaka and it was mostly about production and behind the scenes. They had clips of the actors doing their voice work in the studio but none of Atsuko Tanaka, the freakin’ star of the movie!! Ugh that was disappointing but it was neat to get the details how it all came together.
