Overview

After the devastating events of Avengers: Infinity War, the universe is in ruins due to the efforts of the Mad Titan, Thanos. With the help of remaining allies, the Avengers must assemble once more in order to undo Thanos’ actions and restore order to the universe once and for all, no matter what consequences may be in store.

Once more in IMAX. IMAX >>>> Dolby. Since this movie was shot with IMAX cameras it makes such a difference to see it on this huge screen. Also nice to have a decent crowd out for a 2:45pm screening on a Friday (in contrast, I saw LEGO Movie 2 in IMAX at this same time on opening day and I was alone in the entire theater).

It’s interesting that different moments in the film impacted my feelings. For example, the Hawkeye/Black Widow sequence really got me this time. Of course, all the Nebula scenes are still my favorites, Rocket second. The funeral scene is still just as impactful. Also caught Howard the Duck.

However, on this third viewing I feel that I like Infinity War more than this movie. Having more days to think on the movie, I’m soured on the whole “Five Years Later” device. And the flimsy “time heist” machinations are really magnified. As soon as Tony says, “Hey I know a time we can back to in order to fix this (get the tesseract & Pym particles) it really falls apart.

I still love the action beats and humor. The final battle is great. It’s just that middle segment where the movie collapses for me and makes it less of a great film compared to the excellent table setting in Infinity War.
