Viewing Notes

This old chestnut: man commits crime to save his family. This could be a stage play with almost the entire story taking place in one location. Ozu loves the melodrama here and posing these characters together to create tension. Very fascinated by all the English language on the walls throughout the apartment. Was also worried bc it looks like an unsafe environment.
