Viewing Notes
This premise was so promising. Yet it didn’t really grab like I thought it might. Not sure why because it has all the right elements but maybe lacks in the character department. Like I just didn’t care much for the good guys until the final act. The drama between the two main characters (a cop and a surgeon) seems lacking… like why should I care about this couple? I will say that the crooks in this are fucking full-on evil bastards.
And one aspect I really appreciated is that good guys don’t always win. Not really a spoiler but just a treatment that mirrors reality. Things just don’t always go well for either side and watching that was nice. Also the the cinematography is excellent. You feel the cold they feel. And all the bumps and bruises and hits and gunshots.
Maybe this is a better movie than I give it credit. Perhaps if I watch it again when it hits streaming I’ll enjoy it more. Certainly the final act is quite thrilling it’s just getting to it that left me wanting more.
Still recommended for a quality Chinese production.
