Viewing Notes

Not gonna stop with the last one having seen them all in theater. Shoulda asked my buddy Kevin if he wanted to go since he’s in town (we went to the very first X-men movie together at the Regal Lincolnshire).

Anyways, this is perhaps the worst of all the films and a very sad ending for what should’ve been the most promising given the rich storylines to draw from. This movie commits one the greatest cinematic sins; it’s boring. In fact, it looks like the final episode in a 12 ep series you’d find on SyFy. Normally this wouldn’t be a bad thing but it is when it’s a wide release capper to a long series of films that started 20 years ago. These characters deserved better.

Sad thing is, I like these actors yet it feels like they’re just performing for the contract they signed. It’s hard to believe anyone in this as tho they know they’re playing make-believe. Credit to Fassbender for still rising above this awful screenplay to still give ole Magneto some potency. The rest of the cast are just there doing some things, none of it interesting. I almost fell asleep.

Weirdly enough, there were smatterings of applause in my audience when the film ended. Maybe they were just happy that this franchise is officially over as we know it. Hope Disney/Marvel gives this IP a good rest before merging it into the MCU.
