So I hear it’s Batman 89’s 30th anniversary today. Gives me good reason to finally bust open my Tim Burton Blu set.
Also Pat Hingle double feature tonight!
Such an odd movie to view now given the blockbuster it was on release. Crazy that this had only a $35M budget which is nothing compared to big superhero flicks now. Haven’t seen this in over 2 decades so it was fun to notice things like all the miniatures used. Back in the early 90s this was on cable all the time so I watched it a lot yet still never nostalgic over it (we did go to see it in theater when I was in college at SIU). The movie is so stylized it could’ve been a musical. Really does play like a live action comic book if you view it like panels. Nothing in the film feels real; more dreamlike in its overall look and approach to the character/story. I did like the Robin storyboard scene in the extras but understand why they decided not to shoot it.
If this movie were released today it would be shredded but I think it rec’d a favorable reaction back in 1989.
