Viewing Notes

Seems appropriate to view this after ALADDIN. RIP Franco Zeffirelli

Not sure when we watched this but probably HS lit. I wanna say freshman year but would they have shown something so provocative then? Olivia Hussey was an early crush. Crazy she was 15/16yo during the making of this.

Probably bc I haven’t really watched many Shakespeare adaptations that I find it strange to hear his prose nearly verbatim which could be goofy if not handled well. What’s great about this is that they approach it like the stage and fully commit. Made sense to shorten the lines for the young stars allowing them to emote more. And I really love their infatuation w/each other, boosted by being from opposing families (the whole forbidden love thing, yeah?). Wish I had paid more attention in class during all the Shakespeare coverage. I did do a very detailed illustration of the Globe Theatre for a project.

Anyways, this is cool flick once you get into it.
