So way back when I started tallying / logging films on the regular I watched this Oscar-nominated short film (probably on this very same DVD from my library system). However, for some really strange reason I didn’t log most of the short films from this collection: A Collection of 2005 Academy Award Nominated Short Films. My reason? Because collectively they run about 3 hours. Instead I just logged two of the shorts, my favorites of the batch. WTH
Must’ve been a odd time for me.
Anyways, this film popped up in my LB TL and it looked familiar but I hadn’t logged it. So I checked my library network and this DVD popped up. My first thought, “I’ve checked that out and watched those.” I referred back to ML to discover that I had only logged two of the shorts. Picked up the DVD today and preceded to watch this one and had only the vaguest of recollection. This short teeters the line between “behold the beauty of the female shape” and “total objectification of women” so I’m on the fence. Slightly. It is clever and well made (budget was $40K which probably went towards rental fees and whatever they paid everyone).
As I logged this entry I notice there’s two films of the same name by the same director, Sean Ellis. He made a full feature using the same premise / actors??? This is dumbfounding to me bc the story works perfectly as a short film. How he extended that out to 1:45 runtime is bewildering. Not sure of the availability of that film but consider me curious.
Here’s a link to my SIX SHOOTER notes where I discuss not logging the other shorts from this collection.
