Viewing Notes
So I didn’t realize this was a sequel (to ICEMAN 2014) nor did I realize that the DVD I got from the library was the sequel (thought I was getting ICEMAN 2014). So it was VERY CONFUSING when it started. But they do a little “Here’s what happened in the last movie” bit before starting off in the new movie. But I thought it was maybe a TV show that was given a feature film for the finale. It was just very confusing b/c there was a lot of exposition in that “in case you missed the entire story up to this point” montage.
After getting thru that this turned out to be possibly the worst Donnie Yen film I’ve seen. Like really bad. Even the fight sequences are uninspired and tedious. The ending is “holy shit this is how this is gonna end???” It’s a weird Timecop / Ming Dynasty period film mashup and it doesn’t work and it is completely ridiculous and dumb. Giving it 4/10 is generous but that’s b/c Yen shows up with his normal modern (short) hairstyle and May (the damsel in distress) asks why and he says, “hey it’s new start so new haircut” which shows how no fucks were given to even keep any continuity*.
* I watched the first film ICEMAN shortly afterwards and it is SO MUCH BETTER and makes so much more sense and maybe this movie would be better had I seen the first movie before it but I dunno bc I really don’t want to watch this again.
