Overview

Hong Kong and Taiwan are 2 islands inextricably linked by their huge neighbour. Modern metropolises full of eastern traditions, they’re forging forward in the 21st century as China’s little dragons. Traveller Megan McCormick begins her journey in Hong Kong, looking out at the incredible skyline from Victoria Peak. She then takes in the contrasts of the city before taking the ferry visit Tap Mum Chau and Lantau Island. After a flight to Taiwan she explores the capital Taipei, ending her trip with a visit to its most remote outpost - Orchid Island.

Viewing Notes

Another Globe Trekker edition with Megan McCormick. As in her Central Japan trip, she’s a big goofball, which is part of being the host. Sometimes it’s pretty funny like when she gets a snake put her in a sneak up and she freaks out. She’s got the right personality for this. Wonder if I saw any of her eps in the past when I used to watch Globe Trekker regularly on PBS back in the day.

What’s neat about this is that instead of going to all the typical places, Megan is hitting up spots that 99 percent of tourists to HK/Taiwan are not gonna do. Like the hike up the mountain or staying over night at the Buddhist temple (and praying at 4:30 in the morning) or the wire-fu stuff (like how do you even find out about that??). Makes for a good watch to see some things you haven’t seen before mixed with the usual stuff.
