Very fun movie on a shoestring budget. Yoshikazu Ishii was there to introduce the movie and do a Q&A. Didn’t realize until the movie started that one of the translators for G-Fest was in the movie, Aoi Kuga. She’s one of the students and doesn’t have many lines but I recognized her immediately. After the movie she said “oh you may have seen me in the movie” chou kawaiiiii
What the film lacks in budget (FX) it makes up for in heart / story. It’s about a night school that is closing at the end of the year/semester so the students convince the teacher to have a musical to end the term. They choose the story of Momotaro to perform. Unbeknownst to any of them, two of the students that lead the charge are actually aliens being tracked by other aliens. After the hilarious performance, the evil aliens drop in to kill the two students so they give a “power-up pill” to the teacher to fight the evil alien that is now a big jellyfish kaiju.
Plenty of laughs throughout the movie and some nice plot turns between the characters. Sadly Ishii said that there is no physical release planned bc no budget. Maybe it will turn up on streaming someday. A total DIY comedy kaiju flick that should be seen by everyone that loves these kinds of tokusatsu type of flicks. (worth noting that there is no tokusatsu due the budget constraints but it certainly made for a funnier film that way)
