Overview

Freddy Krueger is resurrected from his apparent demise, and rapidly tracks down and kills the remainder of the Elm Street kids. However, Kristen, who can draw others into her dreams, wills her special ability to her new friend, Alice.

Threw this on for background while I catch up on other things and ended up watching the whole goddamn thing. If I was ranking the first 4 NOES films this would be 4th but I still like it and I saw it in theater when it was released.

I believe this is the first time I’ve seen the repeating scene in a horror film (is this the first time it’s happened?) where they keep running to the truck over and over until they realize it’s a dream. Seems like such a common trope anymore but this may be the first time it’s used in a big horror film.

We get the mini-heads TWICE: once on Freddy’s chest then on the pizza, which I always loved. But I’m positive that it’s a brussel sprout that Robert Englund puts in his mouth. This may be the first NOES film where Freddy is going all-in on using actual catchphrases used by the brands (even when the brands aren’t featured in the movie) e.g. “roaches check in but they don’t check out.” I love that. This is instead of saying shit like “you are all my children!” as he does in NOES2.

Always dug the waterbed kill b/c of the naked lady but also Freddy’s remark “How’s this for a wet dream?” which is perfect.

So dumb that it’s so obvious a stunt double replaces Alice when she has to do any martial arts such or use the nunchunks.

Anyways, this is a fun film that I’m slightly nostalgic for b/c I saw it on release in theater. And oh yeah Renny Harlin directed this… which is just fucking nuts when you think about it.
