Viewing Notes

Was happy to find this Blu on the shelf at my library. Skipped at FF but wish I would’ve seen Flash Gordon there. Shocked Flash hasn’t been programmed at any of the sci-fi events or even at MBT midnights. Would be great to see on the big screen. I need to dig out my Blu and watch it (should’ve viewed it before watching this).

This is a sweet doc that’s both a story of Sam Jones as well as a history of the film Flash Gordon. Most of the interview subjects are either family/friends or other talent at the comic convention. Kinda weird to see this mix esp when you have current celebs like Sean Gunn then family friends like the Alba family but also someone like Jeordie White from Marilyn Manson (who I didn’t even know was doing con appearances after his departure from the band from sexual abuse claims).

Worth noting this is the first time I’ve seen Deep Roy being interviewed which was really cool. I honestly thought he couldn’t speak since I’ve never heard him talk. I also love the Brian May segment about writing the iconic music for the film and how Freddie Mercury was frustrated by the vocals.

This doc jumps around a lot between Sam Jones’ troubled history and rebound to the making of the film but overall it’s a nice doc and more faith oriented than I expected. Wish I made the effort to meet Jones at FF. I’ve always liked Sam Jones and was envious of my buddy who met him at a local Tae Kwon Do tournament when we were kids.
