Viewing Notes

Threw this on while I pack up some things. I really like this movie and really like how stylized it is but I’m not sure why I don’t love it. Like, it has all the things I love in a movie like this… but why do I not love it?

I do love that this is loaded with some A-List actors like Brie Larson and Tom Hiddleston, who are both excellent. The supporting cast is just as great w/ Sam Jackson + John C. Reilly + John Goodman etc. I think Toby Kebbell is great not just as KONG but as a soldier but he gets a raw deal on his death. Shea Whigham is A+ fun. I even love Tian Jing despite her being a token Chinese person for funding / marketing reasons.

Seriously. This movie is really good. Why do I not love it.

Still blown away that Jordan Vogt-Roberts got this gig off of KINGS OF SUMMER, which I love but still. He has a lot of very nice flourishes throughout + his vision & homages. The nod to Cannibal Holocaust is still so fucking awesome. Again, why do I not love this movie?

Maybe I love it and just don’t know it.
