$6 matinee FTW (really happy to find this screening at Pickwick, the only theater in all of Chicagoland showing it). Didn’t realize this was a Shudder production so look for it there soon I suppose.
For the most part I dug this flick. I appreciated that it is set in Carbondale, IL despite not being shot there (S/O to Augustana College in my hometown that gets an establishing shot). However, majority of the movie takes place in this haunted attraction which could be set anywhere. I am curious tho I would like to ask the writers why they chose Carbondale (maybe one of them went to college there?).
Story is straightforward: college kids go to a haunted attraction that is more than it seems. Thrills and horror ensue with some wobbly flashbacks. Was into it despite a few bumps. I think I enjoy these kinds of films b/c I hate haunted attractions. So I can watch others experience what I’m afraid of doing.
Was amusing that this was set during Halloween b/c that was HUGE event at SIU while I was there until it was eliminated. Had both one of my best and worst experiences at Halloween festival at SIU. The best was doing a haunted attraction w/my dorm-mates that turned into this extreme Christian propaganda horror thing and my friends got into a fight w/the people running it. The worst was getting separated from my gf in the massive crowd and her thinking I left on purpose to hook up w/another girl. Super shitty night.
