Super torn on this! It’s shot and delivered like an after school special yet is brutally violent. Tonally it’s all over the place. Viewing via Hoopla did it no favors as I had heard Hoopla was serving up HD content finally via JustWatch but not the case on the Firestick app (can’t confirm Roku or other devices but I’m sure it would look fine in my iPad as other films I’ve watched from Hoopla).
So I spun this up hoping for a nice PQ but nope. Looks like first gen DVD or worse. But I stuck with it bc I really didn’t want to watch on my iPad. Anyways, I like some of this and that it’s so violent but maybe it’s too mean spirited? Plus given the presentation it’s an odd flick. I’d be all for viewing a nice HD Blu whenever that gets released.
I love Madison Iseman and the soundtrack even if it’s too obvious at times. Just a strange movie overall.
Also given that this is set in 1995 it was bizarre to hear general casual dialogue from present day. I think that was a mistake. I can look past some of the music not existing at the time (like The Donnas) bc it’s still appropriate but hearing characters say “you’re dumb as fuck” (emphasis on the AS FUCK) among other things is weird and took me out of those moments.
