DKUTV programmed this as part of their Keita Amemiya event over two days (part of Spooky October). Wasn’t aware of this movie but apparently it’s part of the GARO storyline and the 10th film in the series, a spin-off of one of the shows.
Fortunately it’s not hard to follow despite not knowing the mythology of the series. Bikuu is a Dark Slasher on the hunt for a Priest that has being consuming souls in order to recreate the world in his vision. There’s lots of martial arts battles between various characters. The best is Bikuu versus Saya, another Dark Slasher that falls to the dark side and wants to have Priest’s baby to extend the bloodline.
This has horror elements but not really horror so I’m not counting for the 31 in 31 challenge. Had it leaned more into the horror, sure. Instead it’s just dark fantasy. Also weird b/c there’s a scene that features two topless women (briefly but you can see them) which is weird b/c I always thought that GARO was just another tokusatsu series for kids or teens.
I like Sayaka Akimoto as Bikuu, a woman that can kick ass, the primary reason why I wanted to see this.
