Overview
Officially, Apollo 17 was the last manned mission to the moon. But a year later in 1973, three American astronauts were sent on a secret mission to the moon funded by the US Department of Defense. What you are about to see is the actual footage which the astronauts captured on that mission. While NASA denies its authenticity, others say it’s the real reason we’ve never gone back to the moon.

Viewing Notes
Mostly dug this. Not sure why so many ppl were hating on this when it was released. Regret skipping it in theater b/c of the poor WOM. It would’ve been cool to see this on the big screen in that kind of setting. Might’ve been even more impactful. Hard to believe this 8 years old (doesn’t seem that old).
I like the attention to details in comms and astronaut/HQ speak. The final sequence is done so quickly it feels a bit sloppy. Also the comms w/DOD could’ve been a little tighter/more diplomatic in how the news was delivered and received (thought it was out of character for an astronaut to flip out over being sacrificed for the mission when they know the moment they accept the mission that there’s a good chance they may not return… ESPECIALLY if this is the 18th Apollo mission). Then again in the moment I’ll accept it.
Wish they had a bigger budget for the FX bc at times it doesn’t look right, like the moon when Freedom is orbiting. Other times it looks pretty good. I do like the creatures. They seem plausible lifeforms for the harsh environment. Would like to know how one got instead an airtight astronaut suit undetected.
