Viewing Notes

In terms of genre this covers several bases; it’s music comedy and crime mystery yet also a supernatural mystery but never really horror altho I suppose it could be classified that way for its time. Because there is an old spirit that haunts this old house that somehow shares a cellar wall with the night club next door.

A gentlemen from Georgia and his two daughters have leased the old house b/c they’re performing at a big hall in NYC. Turns out the house is haunted but there’s more to it. So Susanna (Martha O’Driscoll), the tall blonde daughter, enlists the aid of two performers (Olsen & Johnson) next door who do magic to help suss out the ghost.

Then it’s a series of musical performances and slapstick comedy until the real mystery is unveiled. There’s a lot packed into this for a 68 minute flick! It’s really fun along the lines of Abbott and Costello, who they even joke on during one scene. And similar to them, Chic Johnson and Ole Olsen use their real names in the film. Wonder if there are more Olsen and Johnson films?

I went to screening b/c this hasn’t been released on DVD nor is available streaming YT or otherwise. Neat to see it and perfect Hallowe’en viewing. Good looking print too bc it was rarely shown.
