My favorite film of the year? Gonna find on my second viewing. Kinda wild to see a decent amount of ppl at a mid-afternoon matinee but I guess the word continues to spread and more Korean folks are checking it out (mostly seniors at this screening but could tell by their reactions that this was the first time they had seen the film). Was out of AList so happily paid the $6 to see this again since there were no showtimes listed past Thursday altho I have a feeling it will be renewed for another week based on the audience today. Just annoying they won’t make that call sooner for the Korean films we get.
Anyways, this is a roundabout way of saying that I believe this will be my #1 or #2 movie of the year. The second viewing allowed me to focus on other things within the film while still absorbing all the story beats and wonderful acting. Parasite may be a perfect film.
Worth noting that my crowd reacted way differently than I expected, laughing at certain moments that I would not. Sure, some of the true funny bits made everyone chortle but some of the more violent scenes generated audible laughs when I was cringing. Weird to experience.
