Tomorrow Romance is today! Programmed and organized entirely by Jason Coffman. This year the theater space he locked down was adjacent to The New 400 Theater (rented out by the theater). So it wasn’t a theater in the traditional sense but rather a large room with a projector to project on a giant white wall. It looked real good too. And the theater staff would come over to check on us and sell beer and whatnot. We’d also use the theater bathroom. It was a nice setup.
Clue for Slot 1: Double feature of short, gory 1980s Japanese creature features
My guesses: Biotherapy (1986) & Guzoo - Part I (1986)
I was correct! The first was Guzoo followed Biotherapy. I had not seen either of these so I was pretty stocked that Coffman programmed them.
GUZOO basically takes the template from HAUSU minus the weirdness and lurid colors. Simply truncates the story to a group of girls vacationing at their professor’s vacation house where his assistant is working on some secret project. Of course they’re unaware of this until shit gets crazy and a tentacle monster attacks one of the girls. There’s some fun gore scenes including one that I had seen in clip form but never knew what it was from.
Wouldn’t call this a great short but certainly a fun one to start the day and watch with a crowd.
