I remember when they did a special screening of this along with a ramen tasting and I was sad I missed it.
This is definitely not a movie to watch on an empty stomach. The doc follows the top rated ramen chef in Japan Chef Osamu Tomita and the obsessive fans of his restaurant that show up at 6am to get a reservation for 11am. It goes into his day and how he prepares all the ingredients to make a bowl of ramen considered one the best in all of Japan. Then the doc steps aside to highlight a handful of other unique ramen joints around Tokyo, each known for something different and very popular.
Then the doc concludes with three ramen masters developing a signature ramen for the 10th anniversary of Chef Osamu Tomita’s restaurant. This is some cool stuff as they chose some expensive ingredients from all over Japan to concoct their dish. For the actual celebration only 200 tickets will be available so people start lining up at midnight the night before! Later that year Tomita is awarded with the bet chef trophy again.
If I was spending a decent amount of time in Japan I’d absolutely hit up every ramen joint showcased in this doc. They all look so amazing. I know Japan is queue crazy but it is surprising to see so many fanatics line up for ramen joints to this degree.
