Viewing Notes

This is playing like a regional horror flick. Oh shit, it *is* a regional horror flick! I believe this is Fred Olen Ray’s feature film debut*. tbh I thought he got his start earlier. I know his credited as a co-director on a much earlier film but I’m guessing that was more like assistant director or something.

Also this movie looks older than 1980. Thought it was a mid-70s flick. It’s not a good movie but certainly not the worst. Hell, it has Buster Crabbe as the local sheriff. Some of the make-up FX are decent. Overall it’s just very misshapen with odd choices both in the story and the camera work. Of course the acting is terrible.

But this is watchable on a total B-movie level and could be a good selection for B-Fest if they were creative.

*Update: so Fred did a recut of Honey Britches (1971) in 1986 according to IMDb and he did direct an almost feature film before this The Brain Leeches that runs 55min. So this movie would be his feature debut.
