Viewing Notes

This is odd that they paired this 2003 film on the same DVD as a late 80s film (which was an off-brand side story). At least this Scooby Gang movie follows the formula of a mystery to solve and they go to Australia to do it. Supposedly they’re on “vacation” but get sucked into a local mystery taking place at a the Vampire Rock Music Festival (because the rock formation is called “Vampire Rock”). Unrelated but I think this is the first time Daphne has appeared in a bikini (color-matching her standard violet dress, natch). I’ve seen so many episodes and movies but never have I that but it’s cool b/c they’re on vacation and chilling. In fact everyone in the Gang is appropriately dressed for the beach.

I like this movie bc it focuses on this rock festival which has a spooky girl pop punk band (featuring Jane Wiedlin!). And they they travel to another country even if it’s by cruise ship which makes no sense other than to have an excuse to bring the Mystery Machine with them. That’s so ridiculous but cartoon! Velma gets a great moment, too, as the lead singer of their faux band for the festival. She’s totally doing Elton John which was an interesting choice given her character.
