Viewing Notes

Unbeknownst to me my library had the Sherlock Holmes Collection on Blu. I found when I was searching for a random Sherlock title that I had not seen (looking for other murder mysteries). It collects all the films that starred Basil Rathbone as Holmes.

Have only seen the Peter Cushing led Hound of the Baskervilles so I was glad to finally view this version with Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes. This was the first Sherlock film with Rathbone and Nigel Bruce (as Watson), which I didn’t know. This restoration looks incredible. Possibly the best looking film I’ve seen from this time period.

Much like the Cushing version I’m still not crazy about this particular story. Not sure why given the high praise for Cushing’s film. At least this is a gorgeous, gothic film to watch.
