With the release of KNIVES OUT, this title The Last of Sheila has gotten a lot of mentions on my TL. Requested from the interloan since I’ve been cramming a lot of murder mysteries recently including watching nearly every season of Columbo. Was pretty excited to see this one as it had some good WOM hype.
Definitely lives up to that. I’m jealous of those in LA that could see this on the big screen at the Drafthouse. This would be a super fun movie to see in a theater with a good crowd. Has a great cast and a cool device to bring them together in an exotic locale (Cannes, France). Plus it’s a mystery within a Hollywood circle of filmmaking friends so lots of talk about movies and references. Apparently Dyan Cannon’s role was based on super agent Susan Menger.
Another title that I don’t know if there’s a updated Blu release but it deserves one. I’d pick it up if so. Also there’s a commentary track with Cannon, Richard Benjamin and Raquel Welch that I’d love to hear. I probably note this every time I see a Raquel Welch movie but goddamn is she gorgeous. I believe she was cast in some films just because she’s so beautiful, an it-girl at the time. Her character makes a remark “I don’t even know why they cast me!” which seems on point for her real life.
