The plot of Marine Express can be described in two parts. The first part focuses on the people boarding the train and the problems they encounter on it. The second part takes place after the train has stopped at its half-way point, an island that used to be home to an ancient civilization millennia ago and has its fair share of secrets.

This Osamu Tezuka flick is the kitchen sink of his stories. Super fantastical tale about a super train that travels under the sea at high speed that includes Astroboy (“Adam” here), Black Jack (who I always thought was a Go Nagai creation), Super Leo and other characters in this murder mystery that evolves into a wild time travel adventure w/an alien invasion.
The transfer uploaded to YT is really nice, too. Very clean and good subtitles. Had me thinking about getting download software to save this one.
Film starts w/a murder of an inventor and a detective on the case. He’s led to the Super Train with a bevy of interesting guests (we meet Adam and Black Jack and Credit w/his daughter, some masked criminals and so on). The detective discovers the murderer and uncovers the mystery but Adam’s father has sent Adam on a mission to destroy the Super Train so that becomes the second act until the entire train is warped 10,000 years into the past during the Mu Empire and the crazy alien who’s taken control of them.
Such a bizarre and fun sci-fi adventure. And not pulling punches when characters get eliminated. Yeah I may have to download this for keeping.
