Viewing Notes

The last film from the Sherlock Holmes collection left to watch. There’s an intro on Disc 1 that discusses the lengthy restoration process that took 12 years to complete. It’s nice. It would be cool to have an intertitle card before each film that indicates what materials and elements were used for the restoration since all the films utilized different sources.

It’s odd this installment (that followed Hound of Baskervilles) is a turn of the century period film when the subsequent Holmes movies were set during WWII. The costuming and horse drawn carriages all looks appropriate for Holmes but wild that it skips a few decades ahead after this movie. I really like Ida Lupino in this.
