Viewing Notes

Back when Michael York was the man. Decided to request this title when I saw the cast. I mean, holy shit. This is borderline comedy. I’ve seen a few adaptations of the three musketeers and they all have some bit of humor as if it’s a requirement to tell this story.

This is fun not b/c of the cast and less b/c of the ribald comedy (for its time). Although it is a bit quaint to see. Besides this stacked cast I like the on-location shooting in Spain (standing in as Paris). Looks great and a place I’d love to visit.

Christopher Lee is a pretty good Rochefort. He and Michael York (as D’Artagnan) have a rather intentionally clumsy sword fight that is funny… “Monsignor Cyclops!”

I’d love to see this on the big screen. If a 70mm print still exists this would be prefect for MBT’s 70mm Fest.

Haha I’m watching the making-of featurette and they talk about the humor inherent in the original novel… so maybe I just need to read the book. I love these old BTS features from the 70s. Wish there were more interviews with the cast. I just wanna watch Raquel Welch talk about making movies for hours in-between Christopher Lee chatting about being the best character in the film.
