Overview

Super spy Lance Sterling and scientist Walter Beckett are almost exact opposites. Lance is smooth, suave and debonair. Walter is… not. But what Walter lacks in social skills he makes up for in smarts and invention, creating the awesome gadgets Lance uses on his epic missions. But when events take an unexpected turn, Walter and Lance suddenly have to rely on each other in a whole new way.

Viewing Notes

Second theatrical movie of 2020! This movie is just okay. Given the talent and production value it’s rather flat overall. Especially the humor. I’ve seen plenty of family-oriented animated films in theater w/children in attendance and usually they have some reaction to the film. This movie generated zero response and it was rather quiet during the entire screening. I think it’s because the comedy beats never really land (and a lot of the story is rather dark; death of parents, death of civilians, evil revenge plot that centers on the execution of secret agents, etc.). Tonally a strange movie. I give it a half star bump for the voice acting and a pretty good third act.
