RIP Kobe Bryant August 23, 1978 - January 26, 2020
This was some devastating news to receive today. 41 years young with his 13yo daughter. I don’t usually cry over celebrity deaths but reading so many comments and tributes from fans to other stars to the moments of silence at sporting events it really broke me.
I was working in the sports entertainment industry (trading cards) when Kobe entered the NBA. It was the biggest thing ever. To follow his career thru retirement and see him flourish during his second act as a father and family man has been special. I’m deeply saddened for his family, his daughters and wife now without a father, husband, sister and daughter.
In one of the tributes I saw Robert Rodriguez note how much he loved working with Kobe on The Black Mamba (also KB’s nickname). Watched it again having completely forgotten about it until today. Kobe wasn’t perfect but he was a man who learned from his mistakes yet his charisma is undeniable as evidenced here. If his academy award winning short film is online I’ll probably watch that later. I need to get out for a long walk now.
Thank you, Kobe
