Okay let’s see this F cinemascore film!
Wow now I really need to read some reviews bc this movie creeped me the fuck out. It has an ongoing sense of dread that had me unsettled throughout. This is to say that I rather enjoyed this movie and I’m baffled by the reactions (that it’s supposedly very bad esp. the ending). Definitely want to read some reviews and listen to some podcasts should anyone decide to cover it.
I get that it’s the story but I can never not shake my head when the protagonist just does not leave a shitty, scary situation. Like I would be out the door on day two. Fuck that noise and fuck those kids. I wanted to scream at the screen “LEAVE! JUST LEAVE ALREADY.”
I like how it’s a period piece from the early 1990s when it doesn’t have to be. Feel like we’ll see more of that in films (throwback to the 90s). Also dig Sigismondi‘s visual style. This looks like it was made by the director of those early Marilyn Manson videos. In fact, I really want to revisit those videos now.
Nice review of the movie in the Chicago Trib: The Turning Review
