Viewing Notes

Given the premise this movie is so much better than anyone could imagine. For a Step Up copycat. New girl (Keenan Kampa) starts at a music/dance academy in NYC and falls for subway street performer violinist bad boy (Nicholas Galitzine). Lots of drama and dance battles ensue with a big finale that combines the violinist w/ballet dancing and street dancing. It’s wonderful. I don’t think this made it to theaters but if it did I’d be deeply sad that I missed it.

I appreciate that they actually did on location filming in NYC not just establishing shots yet most of the inside sets were done in Romania on a sound stage.

Sonoya Mizuno is in this and I knew I recognized her but I could not place her. Of course after the movie I checked and sure enough she’s in a bunch of movies I love (small parts which is why I couldn’t immediately place her). She’s great and should get bigger roles in films.

I dunno if this movie is available on Blu (I watched via Hulu) but I’d own this and include it in a dance movie marathon I’d love to do someday.
