After viewing The Man Standing Next earlier this year I wanted to watch the other Korean film based on the same event: the assassination of the president in 1979. I knew this was a meant as a dark comedy but it’s certainly not a laugh out loud haha comedy. The humor is more in how these KCIA handle/bumble the situation and how messy it gets. The two young women guests of the president have the best running gag. I’d liken this to The Death of Stalin but not nearly as funny or on point as that film is.
Between both films I prefer The Man Standing Next since it is so gravely serious and presented that way with the strategic maneuvering to complete the assassination.
