All the advertising and marketing makes this look like a Dreamworks flick. Seeing that poster I would not guess Pixar.
Soooooooo I really was not into this movie. For the first two thirds/acts. But the movie really came around in the final act and swung way over to the other side to win me over. tbh the first half or so this is maybe a 5/10 kids flick. Nothing about it (other than the wild premise w/the two brothers and their father) was very interesting or amusing. It was just watching images pass by my eyes. Albeit colorful images. Also the voice acting of Tom Holland and Chris Pratt was distracting b/c it really sounds like Peter Parker and Peter Quill. It seemed like Jack Black would’ve made a better older brother than Pratt. And I really don’t wanna hear Tom Holland continue to do his American accent when if that’s what they want for the role just hire someone w/an American accent. Seems to defeat the purpose of having Tom Holland when you can’t see his face/acting.
Just thinking about the movie now makes me grimace over how flat and uninteresting that first half is. Gotta give it props to how well it redeems itself in that last act to make me rate it favorably. But it really brought me to tears probably b/c it’s a bit relatable. My thoughts wandered… “what would I do if I could bring back my mother for one day?” Also what kind of brother I was for my little brother when all he had was me. I dunno if he even remembers any of that b/c he was so young. So yeah this is that kind of movie and why it worked on me towards the end.
I suppose knowing where it goes I may want to view it again to determine if that first half was really awful or just misleading.
