Viewing Notes

Overall a solid supernatural thriller featuring an evil spirit that mimic the voices of loved ones to lure people into it’s cave… for what purpose? Not sure. That’s not really explained even w/the obligatory exposition drop in the third act. Perhaps just to suck the souls out?

Some nice scares (one in the beginning that got me) and thrilling sequences with some great acting esp. by the children. Seriously I hope they had good handlers on set for what they put those kids thru. Well shot that’s often beautiful imagery yet also unsettling. Where it loses me is the story partly mentioned above as to the reasoning behind the evil spirit and lots of loose ends. There’s an opening sequence that gets dropped in the first act which seems odd given the setup. Also the usual trope of something happening and not immediately going to the police to inform them, which could prevent much of the conflict in the film.

I do like how the spirit plays on grief to lure its victims but again why? Just doesn’t stick the landing after quite a buildup.
