Viewing Notes

RIP Johnny Yune
1936 — March 8, 2020

I remember watching this via rented VHS back in the day. Then it was on HBO a lot. Don’t recall too much about the movie other than the general premise. Sad that Johnny Yune passed away this week. He was one of the first big Asian comedians / crossover stars.

The on-location filming in NYC is great! Also the twin towers featured prominently (second night in row following Three Days of the Condor). While this is not a good movie it does provide a fun way for Yune to showcase his comedy. Also this is a thinly veiled indictment on racism yet championing immigration to America. This movie could be made today and be very relevant, which is why I can rate it favorably.
