An isolated lake, where an old monk lives in a small floating temple. The monk has a young boy living with him, learning to become a monk. We watch as seasons and years pass by.
Length 103 minutes
A testament to how great this movie is: started viewing at 4am already sleepy and the movie is very quiet with little to no dialogue about a monk living in a temple in the middle of a lake, literally the ingredients to make Jay fall asleep, yet I was completely glued into this story.
Now I get it. Wish I hadn’t waited so long to watch it.
Only dvd available at my library and I’m guessing it doesn’t have a Blu release but damn this is one that deserves it. Actually surprised that Criterion hasn’t picked it up. It is perfect for their collection.
