Typical bollywood: three separate stories twisted into one main narrative which I guess is the serial killer / revenge story? This guy is bullied by his wife (and thinks he’s being bullied by women, in general, b/c the ridicule him or whatever) so he stalks the women and murders them. He takes something from each victim to give to his wife so that she will love him. Of course this leads to him encountering one of the stars of the movie: Shraddha Kapoor.
Story 2: a bad boy gangster (Sidharth Malhotra) does dirty work for a gang boss including murder. He doesn’t like it but has no way out until he meets Shraddha Kapoor’s Aisha who wants to hire him for a job. Turns out it’s a altruistic request. Eventually these two fall in love and get married.
Story 3: stories 1 & 2 cross and this ex-gangster, Guru, is now on the pursuit of the serial killer (Ritesh Deshmukh). Up until this segment nearly the entire movie is shown in flashbacks. This is cat & mouse is the remainder of the movie.
Firstly, this is similar to a lot of crime thrillers I recall from the 90s. But 25 minutes too long. However, it starts with a sequence that I usually don’t like in films then proceeds to go into flashback mode to show how it got to that sequence. So basically the audience already knows a major outcome of the story and is left knowing this as the flashbacks unfold.
It’s disappointing for that reason and revealing the serial killer story so there’s zero mystery. Just story beats to hit. The movie is still watchable and has decent performances and is well crafted. Just wish there had been a better way to do this that would give some mystery and genuine concern for the characters.
