Viewing Notes

Decided to finish off this show w/the second feature film that is Made in Abyss episodes 9 - 13. This is still really good but not as good as the previous film. The main issue is that this movie wouldn’t work on its own w/o the deep lore and relationships established in the first film. I do really appreciate that it expands on ideas planted early in the story and also provides even more backstory on a new character introduced.

This is a strange beast of a series/film because on the outside you’d think this was a children’s show, gearing towards a younger audience. Yet whoa it is really not for kids given some of the profane and very adult and very violent moments that occur… despite the main characters being children. There are some disturbing things here, which is great but unexpected when they happen. I suppose that’s why I like it; there’s both underlying and overt peril the characters are always subject to throughout the story.

The third movie Dawn of the Deep Soul, which is all new and not sewn together from the episodes, was scheduled for theatrical release next month but I’m guessing that’s not gonna happen now. Wonder if we’ll even get to see it over here.
