Overview

Mi-ja, who has been taking care of a retired teacher, Ms. Park, invites several of her former students to her house 16 years after their graduation. Since the end of her teaching career, Park has been residing in the countryside, suffering from an illness while an ex-student, the kind and pretty Mi-ja cares for her.

So I read a review of this on Eastern Kicks by James Mudge, who covers all the CatIII / horror content for the site. He really raved on the title so I wanted to see it (note: I don’t always agree w/his opinions and FTR I don’t care for his attitude as he can be condescending on their podcast). Fortunately the title is streaming on Kanopy so I fired it up. Seemed really familiar so I checked here and sure enough I had viewed it already when it was on Netflix (back when they had a much cooler and weirder selection).

And I wasn’t super keen on it from my notes. But I was willing to give it another spin bc perhaps I was wrong.

Nope.

It’s fine. But very much a victim of falling over itself to make the plotting overly complicated when it doesn’t need to. Sure, it’s gory at times and has an okay setup / motive (a group of older young people stage a reunion at the rural home of a former grade school teacher despite really not being all that fond of the teacher). Suddenly the former pupils are getting murdered. What it boils down to is revenge of the pupils or revenge on the teacher? Reminds me a little of the k-horror title NIGHTMARE, which I like a lot.

One of the bigger issues is that there is no HD version of this Tartan release so the transfer on Kanopy is garbage and the movie is already very dark. So it’s a challenging watch b/c you can’t see much of what is going on. If there was a better quality HD release I would give it another go.
